Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel is to travel to Turkey again on Monday to meet with Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to discuss the inflow of migrants going through Turkey to Europe, the German government announced on Friday.
This is her second visit to Turkey to discuss this issue since last October 18. Then as now Merkel wants to cooperate closely with Turkey to stop hundreds of thousands of migrants and refugees from entering Europe, which is struggling to deal with the largest refugee crisis since the Second World War.
Merkel wants to stop such a large number from coming in at the same time and introduce a national cap on the number they take in a year.
Turkey agreed last November to divert resources to keep Syrian refugees in Turkey closer to their own country in return for a three billion euro grant. However Ankara is already saying it will need at least another two billion.
