General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad, Ministry of Foreign Affairs takes the initiative to offer the auspices and the organizational support to historical and cultural events, under the general coordination of the Deputy General Mr. Dimitris  Plevrakis.  During the events, planned to take place under the superb light of July and August full moon, Archaeological Sites will welcome Greeks of Diaspora, local residents and visitors, for a wonderful journey through the depths of Greek Civilization and Culture, based on Greek Mythology and Philosophy.

Starting point will be the Island of Crete where, focusing on Diktaio Andro region, on Friday, July 31st, 2015, Myth and Culture will rencontre. Under the bright light of the full moon and around the homeland of Psyxro Plateau of Lassithi, will take place a reunion of the Cretan Hellenism of Diaspora. There, at the foot of the sacred mountain of Dikti, the local square will take the name “EUROPE”.

Also, starting July 31st up to August 2nd, 2015,  a Symposium will be held, dedicated to “Greek Mythology and Modern Reformation”.

Europe, Greece, Hellenism, Crete. Words and concepts interconnected through the centuries, in a timeless use for Philosophy, Mathematics, History and Rhetoric. Of Greek origin are many words connected to Science and Culture.  Greek also are the Myths, like the Myth of Europa, the Phoenician virgin  Princess, who was grabbed by Zeus,  metamorphosed  in  a  beautiful white bull,  and led  to the Island of Crete.

The Island of Crete which, located at the crossroads in Mediterranean Region,   has  absorbed,  throughout the millenniums,  all existing influences from neighboring peoples and cultures in the East, West, North and South. In Crete, where, after the first erotic intercourse between Zeus and Europa, she gave birth to their son Minos, who later became the omnipotent king of Crete and, after his name,  the famous Minoan Civilization, the first in Europe,  was developed in the island.

Greek Mythology that revives, on the occasion of these planned events, consists a primary perception of the world, offering strong symbolisms through figures, standards and actions.  Symbolisms elevating human beings in ecumenical dimensions and leverage the European collective consciousness.

The planned events under the light of full moon in Crete, connect the Myth with History, the legend with real life. That connection proves that Europe is weak without Greece because towards Hellenism converge all principles of European substance.

The General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad addresses an open invitation to Cretans in Diaspora so they can honor with their presence the events and the Symposium,  aiming  at the projection of the environmental, cultural and historical heritage of Crete.

All Cretans are invited, from all over the world to contribute towards the revival of the Myth, having as focal point the so called “Bethlehem of Antiquity” , the Lassithi Plateau and the Diktaio Andro. Here, where mythology gave existence to Zeus, Father of Gods and mankind and symbol of religion ritual in connection with human existence.

The Civilization reunion of all Cretans abroad will signify the beginning of a commonly formation of a new Cultural Identity, connected to patent, innovation, mythology and Civilization. An Identity which will serve as credentials for philosophic thought and way of life in societies they live all over the world.
